A finalist in the Lilith Fair Talent Search for New York City and in the 2001 Unisong Songwriting Contest, Relative Sight is an acoustic duo that combines the diverse talents of Heidi Palalay and Janet Taggart. The duo recently released their second CD, More Than One Life, which has been chosen by Performing Songwriter Magazine as on of the top DIY releases in the June 2003 issue.

These two classically trained musicians met as roommates while attending Baltimore’s famed Peabody Conservatory of Music. On the one hand, Janet matches her enchanting vocals with vibrant and resonant cello performances. On the other hand, Heidi’s sweet harmonizing vocals are complemented by her smooth, liquid guitar style. When these two forces of nature converge, the result is Relative Sight. In addition to the cello and the guitar, their sound is punctuated by Heidi’s and Janet’s equally riveting virtuosity on the piano, and the sweet tones of Heidi’s oboe and English horn. Blending the technical, crystal clarity of their classical training with the immediacy and presence of the folk tradition, an evening with Relative Sight amounts to a nonstop flight through the highest levels of acoustic atmosphere.

Relative Sight has been warmly received at the legendary venue Caffe Lena - "These super-talented musicians walked in and blew our socks off!" (Sarah Craig, house manager) and has become a "regular offering" there. At the reputable Towne Crier Cafe Open Mic Finals, they recently took 2nd place, the results of which are determined by their fellow musicians. Ken Millett, owner of the Night Eagle Cafe declares "We see a lot of groups at the Night Eagle and Relative Sight is quite impressive. Very nice music."

While touring throughout the Northeast, Relative Sight has developed an ever-growing fan base and shared the stage with many well-known performers. Some of these which include Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer, Greg Greenway, Ellis Paul, Garnet Rogers, Sonia (of Disappear Fear), Evelyn Harris (of Sweet Honey in the Rock) and Ferron. Their independently produced debut CD, General Housekeeping Tips, was picked by reviewer Andy Stevens (Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin) as one of the top CD releases for the year 2000 - "Sometimes the smallest indie projects end up sounding the richest and most professional."

"It's just my observation that Janet and Heidi bring something to the singer-songwriter realm that I get to experience all too rarely. Their high level of discipline really shines through, and their performance moved me on so many levels. It's just great to hear music that's so well conceived and articulated."
